Putrajaya is a planned city, south of Kuala Lumpur, which serves as the administrative center of federal Malaysia. The seat of government was transferred to Kuala Lumpur in 1999 due to overcrowding and congestion there. However, Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia (as the seat of Parliament) and the commercial and financial center of the country. Putrajaya is the result of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad who was in power then. In 2001, Putrajaya has been a federal territory, the increase in the Federal Republic in three areas. Kuala Lumpur and Labuan are the other two.
Named after the Malaysian Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra the city is in the Multimedia Super Corridor, next to the newly developed Cyberjaya. Development began in 1995 and today the major sights are closed, and the population should increase in the relatively new city. The Jaya part of the city's name means "victory" in Sanskrit.
Putrajaya, covering an area of 4932 hectares, is strategically located in the center, about 25 km south of Kuala Lumpur and 20km from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang. While the city has all the badges of a modern metropolis of its architecture and decorative street drag on the local and regional traditions and customs. domed buildings combine traditional Moorish style modern steel and glass features. It is an interesting mix, Putrajaya look really distinct.
